Floating Production Offloading Vessels (FPSO)

Description of Project:
ACMA was contracted by HHI to provide engineering and design services for the conversion of two existing VLCCs to Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Vessels. HHI was under contract with Petrobras of Brazil. The vessels are moored by an internal turret near the bow, with off-loading taking place off the stern. The vessels are located in Campos Basin, offshore Brazil. The designation for the converted vessels is P-33 and P-35.

ACMA surveyed both vessels while they were located in Brazil, with particular emphasis on the marine systems. Survey reports were provided with extensive photographs taken throughout the vessel.

ACMA provided all naval architecture, marine engineering and electrical engineering drawings and calculations pertaining to ship systems for ABS approval. Drawings and engineering calculations included the structural analysis using SafeHull, site specific as well as the standard classification required fatigue analysis to ensure a twenty-year life on station, trim and stability and hydrostatics calculations, and vessel motions calculations using 3-D diffraction modeling.

ACMA's assignment also included drawing and engineering calculations for loading and off-loading cargo piping design (in tanks and on deck), the tank capacity plan and tables, machinery selection, the design of the off-loading configuration utilizing a hose reel (a drag chute system was also reviewed), vessel facilities powering requirements and the design of the electronic and instrumentation for vessel and cargo monitoring (ECOS System). All drawings were done utilizing AutoCad Release 13. Specifications for all equipment were written to enable HHI to prepare purchase specifications and obtain bids from vendors.

ACMA provided bid evaluations for HHI as well. Production equipment design, procurement
and installation were performed by a third party.
