Tension Leg Platforms

Type of Vessel: Tension Leg Platform
Type of Project: Fabrication Drawing/Weight Monitoring
Client: Atlantia Offshore Limited

Description of Project:
ACMA was contracted by Atlantia Offshore Limited to produce structural and marine system fabrication drawings and provide some structural analysis for the hulls of two deep-water, mono-hulled, tension leg platforms (TLPs). British-Borneo commissioned these Atlantia-designed Seastar TLPs for location in the Gulf of Mexico: one at the Morpeth field (~1700 ft.) and the other at the Allegheny Field (~3300 ft.).

Since the project was on a fast track, a schedule of drawing delivery was laid out that matched the modular production and erection sequence required by the fabrication yard, Gulf Island Fabrication.

The structural drawings contained all welding symbols, piece numbering and all information required for lofting purposes. The marine system isometric drawings (ISOs) and arrangement drawings were produced for bilge and ballast, vents and sounds, deck drains and service air. Piping components were built from the ISOs. ACMA also generated weight calculations for the Morpeth hull modules and their associated engineering systems, based on the fabrication drawings.

ACMA performed finite element analyses for the connections of the top deck to the hull and for portions of the pontoon bottom web frames for the Morpeth TLP. Using different loads for the Allegheny TLP, finite element analyses were carried out to verify the design for the deeper water application. Another model was produced for Atlantia's incorporation into a global analysis using super elements.
